“Pimps and Killers—But in a Philanthropic Way”: ...
Those of you who know me personally and recall my intense dedication to the following essay may be wondering, “Why now?” Dollhouse is now long over, and it’s been nearly a year since I wrote this term paper about it for my Cyber Cultures seminar at Hunter. I suppose the motivation came from the book I’ve found myself immersed in (no pun intended) over the last few days,...

What I Can Do (PRONOUN, PRONOUN, MODAL, VERB)
I can diagram a sentence. I can map a language and do it with a smile. “To be or not to be?” Don’t tell me that’s not a question just because you can’t see all the words. I can dissect what you say, break it up, and make it poetry. Period. Crystal writes what she can do: “I brew strong coffee and break shit.” and I can break that down, start with...

Found Poem: "Still People Later in Time"
Found poetry is a type of poetry created by taking words, phrases, and sometimes whole passages from other sources and reframing them as poetry by making changes in spacing and/or lines (and consequently meaning), or by altering the text by additions and/or deletions. The resulting poem can be defined as either treated: changed in a profound and systematic manner; or untreated: virtually...

Indulgent Diversionary Reading
Confession time… This is the reason for my recent reading challenge lapse. To be fair, these are “books” I’ve read, for the most part, from cover to cover; they just don’t count toward my 50 for the year, obviously. Brides, July 2011 (and August 2011, not shown) Contemporary Bride: New York Edition, Summer 2011 Martha Stewart Weddings The Knot, Fall 2011 ...

OFF THE AIR Angel, Season 3 (second view) Also following the corresponding reviews/recaps by Noel Murray at The Onion’s A.V. Club blog. No on-air prospects for a while! Now that Season 7 of The Office is over (ending on a cliffhanger that I found more unsatisfying than suspenseful) along with the bizarrely uneven Season 2 of Glee, it appears I have little to look forward to until...

Writing Prompts: Temporary/Commitment
Relief You’re home and now I get that it was all just temporary— the temporary sting of tears on the Air Train after seeing you off, of a scrape on my toe you were too far to kiss of washing a pepper then rubbing my eye— and the sting is just fleeting because commitment means coming out of all the temporaries together.
